You helped make this event an overwhelming success! It was and continues to be our goal to raise awareness for Organ and Tissue Donation here in Ontario, and because of your involvement that we continue to achieve this goal.

You can help even further by ensuring that you are registered to be a perspective Organ and Tissue donor by clicking on the link below.

https://beadonor.ca/

Please take a moment to be an even greater force for change and share this with all of your friends and family and ask them to ensure that they are signed up to be a donor!

There are currently almost 1500 people awaiting for a life saving organ transplant here in Ontario!  Your show of support has no doubt been a source of encouragement to many of them as they wait for their “Gift of Life”.

Please continue to be a support for Organ and Tissue donation throughout the year by talking about it with your family and friends and help get more people registered to be donors. It is only through people like yourselves, spreading the word, that Ontario’s Organ and Tissue Donation program will continue to grow and save more lives.

Kayla Baker has a new lung

We are VERY happy to report that after being on the organ donor waiting list for two long years our dear friend Kayla Baker finally received the life saving lung she needed. She has been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis – a disease that stems from her childhood bout with cancer. It’s an illness that would have proved fatal without the lung transplant this morning.

If you would like to follow Kayla’s journey, you can do so here:

Vancouver 2013 Transplant Trot Registration is now OPEN!

We may currently be in the throes of another rainy Vancouver winter, but believe it or not, spring is just around the corner, and with that so is the Vancouver Transplant Trot.

It’s time to dust off those running or walking shoes and come on out to join us for the 2nd Annual Vancouver Transplant Trot, happening at Burnaby Lake Park on April 28th.  This year’s 5/8km walk/run caps off the 2013 National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness week, April 21-27th.

No one can deny that we all had a great time last year blowing away expectations and setting a record number of organ donor registrations in one weekend.  But in order to make this year another success we need YOU!

So whether you are a recipient, a family member or friend of a recipient, a donor or donor family member, someone who is passionate about organ donation, or just an avid runner or walker, come on out to help raise awareness for life-saving organ and tissue donation.

To participate the 2013 Vancouver Transplant Trot.

Mackenzie Queen

Mackenzie Queen had a bone marrow transplant and beat leukemia as a four-year-old, but the chemotherapy weakened her heart and, by age 14, she needed a heart transplant. A year later, in 2009, she competed in the World Transplant Games in Australia winning gold and two silver medals.

Rob Queen said his daughter’s health was good until Christmas, when she started complaining about not feeling right. Her doctors found fluid in her lungs and said it was coronary artery disease caused by rejection. She was listed for a second heart transplant.

But Mackenzie Queen, 17, could not hang on long enough for a second heart transplant. She died May 29, 2011 at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children.

‘Phenomenally unique’, ‘a fantastic girl’, ‘so special and well-liked’ are all terms used to describe Mackenzie. She leaves to mourn and lovingly remember her, her father Rob, mother Allison, brother Dustin (15) and sister Kennedy (10).

Mackenzie is why we run. To celebrate her life and to spread awareness for others may give so that many more like Mackenzie may LIVE.
